Is the Euro/Dollar exchange rate getting worse?

I'm living in Spain for the year and have heard that the Euro/Dollar exchange rate is going to be changing from 1.4 to 1.8 very soon and am worried that I will be losing a lot of money. Does anybody know anything about this?

  1. The euro has gotten stronger in the last several months when compared to the dollar. If you are earning in euros, thats a good thing if you are coming back to the US. If you are over there living on savings... well, thats going to hurt a bit. Most analysts think that it could peak around 1.45 but not go much higher than that. Alarmists will tell you the sky is falling in. At the end of the day its anyones guess. Here is an article from bloomberg http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aaCLdtW8zwI8 If you want to take advantage of the strong euro, shop in the US while the dollar is weak and have goods delivered through a mail forwarder like http://www.bongous.com to save on shipping. They have an exchange rate calculator if you want to get obsessive about it ;) http://www.bongous.com/exchangeratecalculator.php And most important..... HAVE FUN, your in Spain for a year!
