Why has the euro exchange rate against the pound changed so much over the past 6 months?

I was getting €1.44 for my pound last year and now it is as low as €1.27. Meaning more expensive holidays for us Brits. I was getting €1.44 for my pound last year and now it is as low as €1.27. Meaning more expensive holidays for us Brits. Our economy is supposed to be strong and Europe's weak !
