Where can I get information about having a foreign exchange student?

Well I think having a foreign exchange student stay with me would be cool, so where can I look at foreign exchange student info, etc.? I think it would be really neat to host a foreign exchange student if my parents say it's ok.

  1. I commend you on your interest in this! I am a 5-time host mom and new volunteer with a program called Youth For Understanding (YFU). I could talk for hours about our kids! As the school year has already begun, the first thing that your family would need to do is find out if your school will accept an exchange student. Many schools have application deadlines in the summer for the fall semester but may take students for the spring semester. Talk to you counselor at school. (If you contact an exchange program, this will probably be one of the first things they do.) When my husband and I started hosting with YFU, the first thing we did was contact programs on the CSIET (Council for Standards on International Exchange Travel) list. YFU was the program that responded the most to our needs. Therefore, while there are several other reputable programs around, I can only speak for YFU. I suggest checking out their website (yfu-usa.org). It has a ton of information. You can request additional information through this site. You can also email me if you like. Some other interesting sites are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcEvkUoqF4E&feature=channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iM8sqFNX6vk&NR=1 YFU is also on FaceBook (as am I). I hope this helps!
